Utah Housing CFO Cleon Butterfield Appointed Council Member to Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle’s Affordable Housing Advisory Council

December 10, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Cleon P. Butterfield, Senior Vice President and CFO of Utah Housing Corporation (UHC), was appointed as a Member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle’s Affordable Housing Advisory Council. Mr. Butterfield will serve a three-year term beginning January 1, 2013. The Federal Home Loan Bank of Seattle (FHLB) is a member-owned cooperative, serving 338 community financial institutions. FHLB provides its members with access to wholesale funding which they use to make home mortgages, small business, and other loans in their communities.

FHLB also works with its members and their community partners to promote affordable housing and economic development. The Affordable Housing Advisory Council is responsible for reviewing affordable housing needs across the district and recommending Affordable Housing Program priorities and policies for the Board of Directors approval.

Butterfield has served as Senior Vice President and CFO of Utah Housing Corporation since 2001. He began his tenure with UHC in 1979, acting in various leadership capacities over his 33 years with the corporation. He has been active in his involvement with the National Council of State Housing Agencies and supportive of sharing innovative affordable housing programs and financing structures with other states.

In addition to UHC,Mr. Butterfield has taught as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business in the School of Accounting. Butterfield has also been a guest lecturer presenting capital market topics at the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants’ training and at the Utah State Auditor’s Office. He was a proud recipient of Utah Business Magazine’s CFO of the Year Award in 2012.

Mr. Butterfield currently serves as a member of the University of Utah School of Accounting Advisory Board, as Council Member of the State of Utah’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Council, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants, and the Government Finance Officers Association. “I am passionate about affordable housing and have the highest regard for FHLB’s mission and its accomplishments. Another appointment to a FHLB council member position includes Judith Olsen, Executive Director of Impact Capital, a financial intermediary and technical assistance provider that invests first-in capital in affordable housing and community facility projects across the state of Washington.
