Housing and Community Development Division Hosts Utah’s Ninth Annual Homeless Summit
SALT LAKE CITY – November 5, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Public, private and non-profit homeless service providers will gather in Salt Lake City to discuss the challenges, successes and trends in serving Utah’s homeless during the Eighth Annual Homeless Summit Nov. 7 and Nov. 8, 2012.
The Homeless Summit begins Wednesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony for Valor House on the VA Campus at the University of Utah from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Participants are welcome to tour the Bud Bailey Apartments construction site at 4003 South West Temple at 1 p.m. (Enter the construction trailer to pick up a hard hat and the site foreman will give the tour.)
On Wednesday, participants will have the opportunity to listen to remarks from Utah’s Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell and keynote speaker Dr. Sam Tsemberis, founder of Pathways to Housing and the originator of the Housing First model of addressing homelessness among people with psychiatric disabilities.
Breakout session topics during the summit range from “Progressive Engagement” to “Working with Victims of Trauma” and will be led by local experts.
“Utah is the clear leader nationally in combating chronic homelessness,” said Gordon D. Walker, Director, Housing and Community Development Division. “This annual conference gives all of us the opportunity to share our successes as well as our new ideas to make our programs even stronger.”
Utah’s Ninth Annual Homeless Summit will be held at the Sheraton Hotel, located at 150 West 500 South, Salt Lake City, UT. Media are welcome to attend the general conference opening session from 8:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m.
